US President Donald Trump on Saturday defended the tariff war he unleashed this week with the widespread imposition of tariffs, although he admitted that there may be an upfront cost for the American population before reaping the rewards.
Convinced of the effectiveness of his measures, Trump asserted that his administration will bring back “jobs and businesses like never before seen” in what he called an “economic revolution.”
“We are going to win. Hang in there, because it won’t be easy, but the final result will be historic,” the US president encouraged.
Trump specifically addressed the situation with China, which he imposed 34 percent tariffs on its products in a measure that Beijing responded to in the same terms yesterday on imports from the United States.
In this regard, Trump denounced that China “and other countries” have treated the United States “unsustainably poorly,” according to the message posted on his Truth Social platform, in which he promised not to stray from this line.
“We have been the whipping post, foolish and helpless, but that’s over,” he said.
