During the early hours of June 17, security agents arrested Pablo Edwin “H,” a man nicknamed Flaquito, who is identified as an operator.
He is a key figure within the Arellano Félix criminal group. Years earlier, the now-detained individual had reportedly monitored Ovidio Guzmán’s movements in Mexico City. When Ovidio was still free, he occasionally visited the nation’s capital. Reports indicate that El Ratón, as Joaquín Guzmán López’s son is known, moved through neighborhoods such as Roma, Condesa, and Nápoles, as journalist David Fuentes shared at the time on Blog del Narco. Tracking “El Ratón” in Mexico City. Army sources consulted for the aforementioned report indicate that El Ratón was monitored for a week in Mexico City in 2021.
Ismael El Mayo Zambada and Rafael Caro Quintero gave the order. An intermediary identified in intelligence reports as El Flaquito was required for its execution.
While Ovidio was being followed by men intent on killing him, he was also a target for authorities. In October 2019, El Ratón was detained by security agents in Sinaloa, followed by violent acts by the Sinaloa Cartel. Ovidio was eventually released.
Military reports indicate that the country’s capital is important for the Los Chapitos faction because it is a financial center and a space where they can move around without attracting much attention.
For its part, the weekly Zeta reports that El Flaquito is identified as the mastermind of the failed attack against Ovidio.
In the end, the attack against Ovidio Guzmán did not happen because security forces, who were also monitoring the actions of El Chapo’s son, arrested individuals identified as Aarón “N” and El Pelón, according to Nmás. Five hitmen were also arrested, who were apparently in charge of attacking Ovidio.
Parts of the conversations between the detained individuals were passed on to authorities, leading them to realize that a man nicknamed El Flaquito was involved in the plot against Ovidio Guzmán.
It is worth noting that after the arrests and the authorities’ surveillance of El Ratón in the country’s capital, surveillance activities continued on Ovidio, and he was captured in Sinaloa in early 2023.
