The Tragedy That Marked the Lives of the Former Lead Singers of Los Recoditos

When discussing the history of regional Mexican music, it’s inevitable to mention one of the most beloved and successful bands: Los Recoditos, from which emerged two of the strongest voices in this musical genre: Luis Ángel “El Flaco” and Samuel Sarmiento, both now successful solo artists.

Beyond their past and the great partnership they formed during their time in Los Recoditos, Luis Ángel “El Flaco” and Samuel Sarmiento have experienced one of the most intense pains a human being can experience: the tragedy of losing a daughter. Both former lead singers of the aforementioned band endured this terrible grief. Below, we recount what happened to the daughters of these beloved regional Mexican singers.

The early morning of August 14, 2023, ended in tragedy for Luis Ángel “El Flaco,” former member of Los Recoditos, when the death of his adopted daughter, 21-year-old Fernanda Robles, was confirmed. According to the reconstruction of the events and the singer’s own account, the young woman entered the sea in the area known as Estero del Yugo, in front of a luxury hotel in Mazatlán, despite the warning flags. In a live broadcast, the artist explained painful details and thanked those who tried to help her.

“My daughter made the decision to go into the sea. The flags were there, there were flags indicating it was dangerous, red flags, but it was nighttime and she didn’t see them, she didn’t see them, she went in and couldn’t get out…” the singer confessed through tears.
