On the night of Sunday, December 21, Óscar Noé Medina González, known as “El Panu,” head of security for the Los Chapitos faction, was murdered in a restaurant in the Zona Rosa district of Mexico City.
Reports indicate that he was shot more than 20 times while having dinner with his mother and another woman at the Luau restaurant, when a man wearing a face mask and a cap entered the establishment and opened fire.
According to an investigation conducted by journalist Anabel Hernández, an expert on drug trafficking, for her podcast Narcosistema, this crime was allegedly ordered by Fausto Isidro Meza Flores, alias “El Chapo Isidro,” leader of the Guasave Cartel, in the context of a violent internal dispute for control of Sinaloa.
“According to information gathered by Narcosistema, his execution was ordered by Fausto Isidro Meza Flores, alias El Chapo Isidro, as part of his war for control of Sinaloa,” the program revealed in episode 74.
Since the kidnapping and release of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel, the two factions that make up the criminal organization have been waging a war in Sinaloa that has resulted in over 2,000 homicides.
Los Chapitos, led by Iván Archivaldo Guzmán and Jesús Alfredo (sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán); and Los Mayos, led by Ismael Zambada Sicairos, alias “Mayito Flaco,” son of “El Mayo,” have been fighting in Sinaloa since early September 2024.
