The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) experienced a shift in its leadership following the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho.”

According to The Wall Street Journal, command of the criminal group passed to his stepson, Mexican-American citizen Juan Carlos Valencia González, known as “El 03” or “El Pelón.”

This succession not only represents a generational change but has also focused international attention on the new leader, who faces charges in the United States and a million-dollar reward for his capture.

The Wall Street Journal detailed that, as soon as “El Mencho’s” burial took place in early March, his stepson—born in California and 41 years old—assumed control of the organization.

His profile combines the lineage of three of the most influential families in Mexican drug trafficking: biological son of Armando Valencia Cornelio, founder of the Milenio Cartel, and Rosalinda González Valencia, linked to the Los Cuinis clan, and raised by “El Mencho”, founder of the CJNG.
