It is still unclear what really happened this past Sunday in the Navarra neighborhood, in the Usaquén district of Bogotá, where a man was arrested after his neighbors filmed him on a balcony with a minor who was allegedly a victim of sexual abuse.
For now, what is known is that the detainee is Gail Grant, a U.S. citizen who reportedly came to the Colombian capital with the intention of adopting three minors with his partner. One of them is believed to be the boy who appears in the video that went viral this past weekend.
The case remains under investigation by authorities, who are trying to determine what happened inside this short-term rental apartment. However, some progress in the legal process has already been revealed.
The newspaper El Tiempo reported that the 7-year-old boy who was allegedly a victim of abuse has already given his testimony. “The child says he gets furious over a toy and that all the man, whom he refers to as ‘father,’ does is take him out onto the balcony to calm him down,” a confidential source told the media outlet.
One of the key points for the investigation’s progress will be the results of the forensic examinations performed yesterday on the three children, after they were taken to a health center in Bogotá. These evaluations will be crucial in establishing what happened.
According to El Tiempo, once the Institute of Legal Medicine delivers the conclusions of the examinations, they will be sent to the prosecutor in charge of the case, who will have to assess all the evidence gathered. Based on that analysis, it will be decided whether Grant is released or remains in custody.
