In the organizational chart of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), the trust placed in them by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, El Mencho, and the loyalty they demonstrate to him are everything. Although its structure is far from hierarchical, below its supreme leader and founder are high-ranking members to whom the most delicate and important operations of the criminal organization have been delegated.
From assassinations or attacks against public officials to the operation of training or recruitment centers, the members of the cartel, also known as the four-letter cartel, who have been entrusted with these tasks are known as Grupo Delta or Deltas.
An intelligence report from the Mexican Ministry of National Defense (Secretaría de Defensa Nacional – Defensa) leaked by Guacamaya Leaks identified them as one of the multiple armed wings of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) operating in Mexico. However, their involvement in high-impact crimes has gradually placed their leaders not only on the radar of Mexican and U.S. authorities but also in the public eye.
In October 2024, members of the National Guard and the Mexican Army dealt a significant blow to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel by arresting Armando Gómez Núñez, alias Máximo or Delta 1, in Guadalajara.
The security cabinet considered him not only the third-in-command of the cartel but also a generator of violence responsible for controlling criminal activities at the Puente Grande prison and coordinating a cell of hitmen known as Los Deltas in the main municipalities of Jalisco.
The Ministry of National Defense (Defense) described this armed wing as an extremely violent group, responsible for carrying out murders, kidnappings and extortions in Jalisco, but not only there, they added, one of the tasks delegated to Delta 1 was also the expansion of the CJNG in Michoacán.
