Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, better known as “El Mencho,” is officially the most powerful drug trafficker in the world, leading the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and surpassing the Sinaloa Cartel, according to Wall Street Journal investigations.
According to information from the American media outlet, the CJNG has taken advantage of the internal crisis led by “Los Chapitos” and the changes brought about by the US government’s anti-drug fight to gain ground on one of its historical rivals.
Derek Maltz, former acting head of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), reaffirmed that “El Mencho” is currently the most influential drug trafficker in the drug trade, mainly due to the considerable increase his criminal organization has achieved in smuggling cocaine into the United States.
The new strategies of President Donald Trump’s administration have harmed the Sinaloa cartel’s criminal operations due to its focus on combating fentanyl trafficking, a priority concern for the current administration, according to the American newspaper. In this regard, the CJNG has taken advantage of this opportunity to expand its reach in cocaine trafficking to the west.
