The Jalisco State Attorney General’s Office confirmed the tragic death of tequila businessman José Adrián Corona Radillo, a member of the renowned Grupo Hermanos Corona, who was found dead after being kidnapped in late December. His body was located in the municipality of Atenguillo, marking a grim start to the year for the region’s business sector.
The events leading to this tragedy occurred on December 27. The businessman was traveling on the highway to Puerto Vallarta, near the municipality of Atenguillo. Upon reaching the intersection known as Volcanes, heading towards Talpa de Allende, an armed group intercepted his vehicle.
According to official investigations, Corona Radillo was not traveling alone; he was with his partner and children. The assailants, after seizing the family’s personal belongings, forcibly abducted the businessman, leaving the rest of his family behind.
A key detail: Authorities emphasized that, after the kidnapping, there was no record of calls or ransom demands from the captors, which has led to several lines of investigation into the motive for the crime.
Adrián Corona’s body was found days later beside the road, in an area near where he was initially intercepted. The forensic report detailed that the victim showed signs of physical violence.
The Prosecutor’s Office reported that, after completing the necessary forensic procedures for identification and evidence collection, the body was released to his family on January 1st, allowing for funeral services to be held.
The news has generated a wave of outrage and messages of condolence within the Jalisco community. The Association of Professional and Business Women of Jalisco issued a statement lamenting the loss and highlighting the positive impact of his entrepreneurial work.
“Don Adrián will be remembered for his generosity and vision, especially for having provided employment to so many women, contributing significantly to the development of our community,” the organization stated on its social media.
To date, no arrests have been reported, nor have further details been revealed about the criminal group operating on that stretch of highway toward the Jalisco coast.
