The appearance of two narcomantas with explicit threats against the director of the Tecate Municipal Police, José Luis Sarmiento Monje, marked the morning of Saturday, August 6, in Tijuana, Baja California.
According to preliminary reports, the messages, posted at strategic points throughout the city, accuse the official of breaching alleged agreements and warn of lethal retaliation.
The first discovery was made at 4:55 a.m., when a 911 call alerted them to a banner hanging on the pedestrian bridge near the Ford car dealership, on the eastern expressway and Tamayo Street, within the Río Tijuana Urban Zone.
According to the specialized media outlet Semanarios Zeta, Tijuana Municipal Police officers arrived at the scene and removed the banner, which contained the message:
“TECATE DIRECTOR JOSÉ LUIS SARMIENTO, KEEP THE AGREEMENTS, YOU SON OF A BITCH. YOU RECEIVE THE MONEY EVERY MONTH. THE NEXT MONTH YOU’LL DIE FOR A FLY. Sincerely, La MaÑa.”
