Federal authorities released a person detained from prison this Wednesday and arrested five men, alleged members of “Los Mayos” in Culiacán, Sinaloa. “The victim belonged to the ‘Los Chapitos’ faction,” explained the head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch.
In the operation, weapons, tactical equipment, vehicles, and drugs were seized. Everything seized was turned over to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
“Following a citizen complaint about the deprivation of liberty of a man, security forces conducted intelligence and investigation work, as well as operational actions with aerial and ground surveillance in the municipality of Culiacán to locate him,” explained the Secretariat.
In a statement, the security agency stated that these arrests were made as part of the ongoing security reinforcement in the state of Sinaloa.
According to the Secretariat, security agents mobilized to the area after receiving a citizen report of the presence of a group of heavily armed men aboard two vehicles in the town of Llano de Abajo, Culiacán.
During the security operation, authorities arrested five individuals, including a minor, and released the detainee, who belonged to a rival faction of a criminal group.
