President Claudia Sheinbaum ruled out any military action in Mexico by the United States government to combat organized crime, following her call with Donald Trump, but indicated that collaboration will continue to prevent drug and arms trafficking.

The president highlighted the coordination in intelligence matters, but made it clear that any action is carried out by the armed forces of our country.

“They know how important our sovereignty is; it may be intelligence, but the operation in Mexico is ours,” she emphasized.

In the morning press conference, which was delayed from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. due to the phone call with the US president, the Mexican president explained that she requested the call because of her counterpart’s statements.

“What prompted the call? He had stated three times that he was interested in greater involvement in security in Mexico, so I believe that under these circumstances it’s always better to seek dialogue rather than relying solely on the media or public communication; it’s better to talk by phone. Furthermore, there’s a history of joint work underway, so that’s why we requested the call.”

“He was generally receptive. He insists on the participation of U.S. forces, but we always say it’s not necessary, and that we are very clear about defending our territory and that there is already effective collaboration, so it’s not required.”

“Did this call rule out military action, in your opinion?” he was asked.

” “Yes, yes… let’s say it was very clear in the conversation that there is collaboration, coordination and that we continue working together within that framework. They can always declare something else at some point and we will seek a new call if that’s the case,” he commented, referring to the statement regarding the contact that was made with Marco Rubio by Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente.
