During today’s morning press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that she made a personal donation of 20,000 pesos to an account established by civil society organizations to channel aid to the Cuban people, amidst the severe energy and humanitarian crisis currently gripping the island.

The President was directly asked about the specific amount and replied: “Yes, I have already made my donation… 20,000 pesos. It is my personal decision—as Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo—to donate to an account opened by a number of organizations to facilitate the delivery of aid to Cuba.” She also mentioned that there were some complications regarding the deposit, though she did not elaborate on the details.

Sheinbaum was emphatic in distinguishing her personal action from her institutional responsibilities. “This has nothing to do with my official capacity as President. As President, my primary objective—first and foremost—will always be to protect the people of Mexico and our nation,” she noted, making it clear that her gesture stems from a personal conviction: “To help the peoples of the world to the extent that we are able to help.”
