Writer Elena Poniatowska and Jesusa Rodríguez, former senator for the Morena party, visited President Claudia Sheinbaum at the National Palace this Thursday, April 9. The mayor shared a brief statement accompanied by a video showing her meeting with the two women:
Sheinbaum emphasized being with her “favorite writer,” referring to Poniatowska, whom she said she greatly admires: “Not only a great Mexican writer, but a woman always committed to the noble and just causes of the Mexican people and to women. So I am happy, Elena, that you are here with me visiting me.”
In response, the journalist also highlighted the arrival of a woman to the presidency: “Claudia being in power is an achievement, I believe, also for all of us.”
Alongside Jesusa Rodríguez, the mayor reminisced about the years when they were both part of the opposition: “Another example, Jesusa. I remember when we were both here outside in the Zócalo hosting AMLO’s events.”
The theater director then highlighted Sheinbaum and Poniatowska’s careers, saying, “I’m here with my two biggest stars, so I couldn’t be happier. And experiencing this moment in Mexico is what I’ve waited for my whole life. So you two are my guides, my role models, and I’m happy.”
