Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum asked for patience while the investigations into the car bomb detonated in Coahuayana, Michoacán, progress before commenting on whether to classify the incident as a terrorist act.

She insisted that the security cabinet will provide details of the detonation at Tuesday’s morning press conference.

“The security cabinet will meet tomorrow, the report will be released, and they can inform everyone. The investigations are ongoing. They are still investigating to be able to explain what happened; they are reviewing security camera footage and conducting the standard forensic examinations.

“Tomorrow, I hope there will be more information so that everyone knows,” Sheinbaum stated. On Saturday afternoon, the Attorney General’s Office assigned the case to the Specialized Unit for the Investigation of Terrorism, Arms Trafficking, and Arms Stockpiling.

Initial investigations determined that the truck traveled from Colima, and that the explosion occurred at 11:40 a.m. on Saturday, leaving five people dead, seven injured, 12 vehicles damaged, and damage to businesses and the local police station.

Thirty specialists are working at the explosion site collecting evidence, the state Attorney General’s Office reported.
