The Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) has revoked the Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat) concession granted to the company Cantiles de Mita S.A. de C.V. for a real estate development project at Playa Las Cocinas in Punta de Mita, Nayarit. The decision follows confirmation of non-compliance with the concession’s terms and the execution of construction work without environmental authorization.
The resolution was reached after a technical, legal, and administrative review by the federal agency, which concluded that the structures and facilities built in the area lacked approval from the General Directorate of Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone and Coastal Environments (DGZFMTAC)—a violation of current environmental regulations.
Following the revocation of the concession, Semarnat announced that it would rethink the site’s management through a strategy focused on environmental restoration and coastal erosion control.
The new plan includes a comprehensive program to restore native vegetation, rehabilitate impacted areas, and prioritize nature-based solutions, with the aim of conserving coastal ecosystems and ensuring free access to the beach for both residents and visitors.
