Four alleged members of organized crime were killed by members of the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force in Frontera Comalapa, Chiapas, in a confrontation that spread to Guatemala.
According to official information from the Chiapas Secretariat of People’s Security, the attack by the criminals began in the community of Las Champas, located on the border with Guatemala, while they were conducting an operation to locate and arrest those responsible for the deaths of five state police officers on June 2.
The Pakales were attacked by the criminals with high-powered weapons and fragmentation grenades, prompting them to respond; the confrontation spread to the La Mesilla border crossing, on Guatemalan soil.
Four alleged criminals were killed in this confrontation, but at press time, no authority had confirmed whether it occurred in Guatemalan or Chiapas territory.
The bodies were taken to the Comitán de Domínguez Semefo (National Police Force) for a legal autopsy and identification.
Guatemalan authorities reported in a statement that they responded to this incident and even deployed their security forces.
“Following citizen reports, the National Civil Police and the army acted immediately, dispatching to the scene to verify the situation and ensure the safety of the Guatemalan side.”
Meanwhile, the bodies of two women were found in a septic tank in the Chiapas municipality of Comitán de Domínguez.
Neighbors alerted authorities to this situation, and they arrived at the scene, which was emitting a foul odor.
Forensics from the Chiapas prosecutor’s office began the process of removing the bodies. They were taken to the Semefo (National Police Force) in Comitán, where a legal autopsy will be performed.
