Vallenato music in Mexico has lost one of its most iconic figures. Francisco Javier “Paco” Silva—founder and lead vocalist of La Tropa Colombiana—passed away suddenly, leaving behind a legacy spanning over 40 years within a genre that has left an indelible mark on generations across the country.

The news came as a shock to family, friends, and colleagues, as the artist remained active and in constant communication regarding musical projects and performances. According to Adrián García, it all unfolded in a matter of minutes.

“Last night, I was here in Monterrey while he was with his wife in Nuevo Laredo. We were working, as we had a benefit event scheduled for Tuesday to support children with autism. He was even sending me messages via WhatsApp, going over pending tasks—including a collaboration we were set to record on Monday with El Gran Silencio—along with other projects we had in the pipeline,” he recounted.

“Everything seemed normal, but suddenly—about 20 minutes later—his wife called to tell me that Paco’s condition had taken a severe turn for the worse. They rushed him to the hospital immediately, but there was simply no time left. Around 1:00 a.m., we received the news that he was gone… it was a massive, sudden heart attack,” he explained, visibly moved.

As he detailed, doctors detected complications upon his arrival at the hospital, but his condition was already critical.

“When he arrived at the hospital, it appeared he had fluid in his lungs along with other complications, but there was nothing they could do. It was completely sudden and overwhelming. There was no opportunity to react or to perform any procedure that could have saved him,” he added.

Adrián García also clarified that this event was unrelated to the singer’s previous health issues.

“No, it has nothing to do with the neuropathy he had been suffering from. This was a completely different type of heart attack—something entirely unexpected. No one saw it coming, which is why it caught us all by surprise,” he emphasized.
