The preliminary hearing in the United States that will determine the future of Ovidio Guzmán López, alias “El Ratón” (The Mouse), has been postponed for a second time, this time for another 17 days.
According to court records cited by the Zeta Weekly, this second delay is due to court scheduling adjustments and the plea agreement that the son of El Chapo Guzmán, former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, has with US authorities.
The ongoing process requires Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman to thoroughly review reports on the extent of Guzmán López’s cooperation, the accumulation of evidence, and the context of the crimes attributed to him. Once the hearing scheduled for July 27, 2026, is held, the judge will be able to set the exact date for sentencing.
The hearing was originally scheduled for July 10, 2026, but was rescheduled due to a series of changes in the criminal proceedings, according to U.S. court records. The court had already modified the schedule once, postponing the date initially set for January 9.
