Ignacio “Nacho” Beristáin, a leading figure in Mexican boxing and Hall of Famer, offered his perspective on Julio César Chávez Jr.’s situation in an interview with the YouTube channel El Boxglero.
The trainer shared little-known details about the entourage and the companies surrounding the son of the historic champion, while also addressing Chávez Jr.’s recent arrest in the United States and the rumors linking him to organized crime.
In the conversation, Beristáin recalled the years he trained Julio César Chávez Jr. at the Otomí Ceremonial Center and mentioned that during that time, several young people linked to organized crime figures attended his training sessions. Among them, he named Ovidio Guzmán, known as one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel and son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, who came to visit the gym and hang out with the team.
“One of Los Chapitos came to see him, but the guy talked to me, and I never asked him who he was or why. I only noticed because his shirt was open and he was wearing his scapular; it was the only thing he was wearing,” referring to the look seen during the 2019 Culiacanazo.
