The entry into the United States last May of 17 relatives of the Sinaloa Cartel’s Los Chapitos faction is one of the benefits that Ovidio Guzmán López, alias “El Ratón,” allegedly obtained through his collaboration agreement with authorities in that country in exchange for providing information for future investigations or supporting already initiated cases.
Jesús Lemus Barajas, journalist and expert on organized crime, stated in an interview with Infobae México that this unprecedented benefit was granted because the son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán provided information about the Sinaloa Cartel’s ties to the Cartel of the Suns, a criminal organization allegedly led by Nicolás Maduro Moros.
“Ovidio Guzmán began to tell them the story of who they were trafficking to South America, Central America, and the name Nicolás Maduro came up. It was him, it was Ovidio Guzmán, who really pointed out Nicolás Maduro’s connections to the Sinaloa Cartel, to other cartels like the Colombian cartel, Los Zetas… It’s not a hypothesis; it’s what Ovidio Guzmán said in his statements, and that’s what moved the United States,” Lemus said.
