Omar García Harfuch denies that the DEA has collaborated with Mexico in operations against the Sinaloa Cartel

Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, said that Mexico has not participated in any joint operations by the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) against the Sinaloa Cartel.

When asked, he said that federal forces have made significant arrests of that criminal organization. However, he said they have not worked together with the US drug enforcement agency.

—The DEA, the US drug enforcement agency that dealt a severe blow to the Sinaloa Cartel in late August, says there were operations both in the United States and internationally. They don’t name the countries they were involved in, or where these operations took place. Did something like this happen in Mexico? Was there any incursion?

—In Mexico, we have been making significant arrests on an ongoing basis related to the Sinaloa Cartel. Regarding an international DEA operation or a large-scale operation involving Mexico, no, we have not had any joint operations, García Harfuch stated.

The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reported that following an international operation against the Sinaloa cartel, 617 people were arrested and more than 10 tons of drugs were seized.
