President Claudia Sheinbaum reviewed the case of officials from the National Migration Institute (INM) who were caught on video soliciting money from Mexican nationals returning from the United States. Those involved have already been dismissed.
“These individuals have been removed from their positions, and an investigation has been launched. We will implement a similar procedure for all cases where there are reports of any act of corruption, in any of our institutions,” the mayor stated.
The recording circulated on social media, and according to an INM statement, the incident occurred on the night of December 16 in Tamaulipas.
“It is important that this case be made public. This video shows a member of the National Migration Institute soliciting money, and we immediately took action,” the mayor added at a press conference. Similarly, the president announced that in 2026 a system will be introduced to allow citizens to report Mexican government officials for acts of corruption.
Through its official account, the National Migration Institute (INM) stated that two agents were caught on camera allegedly committing illegal acts against Mexican nationals in transit to Mexico.
The incident occurred at the offices of the “Puerta México” international bridge, belonging to the local INM office in Matamoros, Tamaulipas.
The agents in question, who are identified in the video as carrying out the alleged irregularities, are currently under investigation, suspended from their duties, and the internal control body has been notified to determine any applicable liabilities.
