Federal, state, and municipal forces arrested eight members of a criminal group during operations in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.
Members of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), the National Guard (GN), the State Police, and the Playa del Carmen Municipal Police participated in the operations.
The eight detained criminals were seized with various packages of drugs and 16 firearms for the exclusive use of the military.
Authorities stated that they are part of a criminal group fighting for control of the plaza for drug sales.
The first arrests were of YazmÃn and José Cruz, who were traveling on Paseos del Mayab Street in the Marsella 3 neighborhood. Bags containing marijuana, methamphetamine, and crystal meth were seized from them.
In the car they were traveling in, there were 12 long guns with their loaded magazines, as well as 76 metal magazines, as well as a firearm with a loaded magazine and a handgun with a magazine.
Marco Antonio, Jorge Ezequiel, and Guadalupe were arrested on Los Gansos Avenue, between Azulejos and Semilleros streets, in the Percadores Quinto Parque neighborhood. Officers found bags of marijuana on them, as well as a loaded long gun with its magazine and two pistol-style handguns, both with their magazines.
