The United States government filed a second federal indictment against Naasón Joaquín García, leader of the La Luz del Mundo church; Eva García de Joaquín, his mother; Joram Núñez Joaquín, his nephew; Silem García Peña, the church’s legal representative in Mexico; and two sex trafficking operators, Rosa Sosa and Azalea Rangel Meléndez.
“The defendants and others, known and unknown, abused the power, doctrine, and structure of La Luz del Mundo Church to threaten, coerce, and sexually abuse girls, boys, and women in the LLDM church to engage in financial crimes and to obstruct criminal investigations into their crimes,” the indictment against the church leader states. This represents his second federal case, in addition to the state child abuse case that already has him in prison.
Naasón Joaquín García has already been taken into federal custody at a prison in Chino, California, where he was already serving a sentence for child abuse.
His mother, Eva García de Joaquín, was arrested this morning in Los Angeles, California. His nephew, Joram, was arrested outside Chicago also this morning. Rosa Sosa, Azalea Rangel, and Silem García are formally wanted and are believed to be in Mexico.
