Mexican military personnel are guarding a funeral home in Guadalajara where the body of drug trafficker Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera, killed a week ago in a military operation, is lying in state, the French news agency AFP reported.
EL UNIVERSAL was able to confirm with a source in the Mexican armed forces that the security detail is indeed for the funeral of the slain leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), the so-called four-letter cartel.
The establishment is being watched over by dozens of trucks carrying members of the Army and the National Guard, while a military helicopter flies overhead.
The AFP source indicated that the objective of the deployment is to deter rival cartels from approaching the site. No local or federal authority has commented on the matter.
