The Mexican boxer asked people to reflect on whether it’s worth living in fear in the United States due to ICE raids, because, for him, the most important thing is to be at peace and calm.

Given the situation migrants are experiencing in the United States due to constant raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), various figures in politics, entertainment, and sports have been asked to give their opinions. Mexican boxer Saúl Canelo Álvarez spoke out and asked them to reflect on whether it’s worth living in fear.
In an interview Canelo gave to the Los Angeles Times, the boxer sent a message to his undocumented fans in the United States, noting that, although he believes they all came to the United States seeking a better quality of life, they will have to face uncertainty.

“Fear is what consumes your mind. I think everyone came here to improve, to get ahead. Personally, I think they should start analyzing whether it’s worth it to be here, without being afraid, without being fugitives from the law.”

He also mentioned the importance of family. “They have to weigh things up. I’m doing this, and it’s helping me get ahead. I’m doing well here and there, and weigh everything up. You know, I think things will go better for me there and I’ll be closer to my family,” Álvarez declared.

Canelo concluded by saying that, in his opinion, the most important thing is to be at peace and calm: “There’s nothing like having peace of mind. I think if I can advise them anything, it’s that wherever they are, they should be calm, that they have peace so they can see things clearly.”
