Tourism in Mexico experienced its best year ever in 2025 with 47.8 million international travelers who spent $31.71537 billion, leaving behind the difficult years of the pandemic that dealt a severe blow to the travel sector and international mobility, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
In 2025, 98.2 million international visitors entered Mexico, representing a 13.6 percent annual increase. Of these, 48.7 percent (47.8 million) were international tourists—travelers residing abroad who stayed overnight in Mexico—a 6.1 percent increase compared to 2024. Data from INEGI (the Mexican National Institute of Statistics and Geography) revealed that the cumulative number of international visitors to Mexico reached an unprecedented level in 2025. However, this was not the case for international tourists arriving by air.
Inland tourists (foreign residents who visit Mexico, cross the border, and stay at least one night within the country) totaled 27.4 million people, a 1.2 percent annual increase in 2025. Those arriving by air accounted for more than 80 percent of inland tourists, totaling 22.8 million, representing a 1.3 percent decrease compared to 2024 (23.2 million).
Land arrivals accounted for 4.5 million visitors (representing 16.5 percent of total arrivals) in 2025, a 15.6 percent increase compared to 12 months prior.
According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, foreign exchange earnings from total visitor spending reached US$34.9 billion, a 10.2 percent year-on-year increase. Spending by international tourists reached a record US$31.7 billion.
