Mexico Seeks to Authorize Entry of 35 U.S. Military Personnel: They Will Assist in Enhancing Security for the 2026 World Cup

The Senate of the Republic is poised to review and authorize the temporary entry of 35 members of the United States Armed Forces into Mexican territory to participate in training activities alongside national military personnel, as part of the security preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The request was submitted by the Federal Executive through the Secretariat of the Interior and forms part of the agenda for the Second Ordinary Session of the Second Legislative Year of the current legislature.

According to the document forwarded to the Senate, the U.S. military personnel would participate in an event titled “Training in Preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and Exercise VITAL ARCHER,” scheduled to take place from April 3 to May 1, 2026.

The Presidency of the Senate’s Board of Directors announced that the proposal was sent directly to the Navy Commission for review, pursuant to Article 67 of the Organic Law of the General Congress of the United Mexican States.
