Mexico wants to “revive” its shoe industry, so the government will eliminate the temporary importation of finished footwear, a measure aimed at curbing unfair competition.
The decree, issued by President Claudia Sheinbaum and presented by the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, will go into effect in the coming days and prohibits the use of the IMMEX program for the import of finished footwear without paying taxes.
In theory, the IMMEX program can only be used to import raw materials or semi-finished products to be processed in Mexico and then exported.
However, some footwear companies are cheating by importing finished shoes under the IMMEX program; they do not pay the required taxes and sell the merchandise in our country.
