Mexican Child Self-Deported Out of the US; Arrived in Honduras

A Mexican migrant minor left the United States on the first self-deportation flight.

Yesterday, the first trip in which migrants leave by choice, as proposed by President Donald Trump, landed in Honduras, with 64 people.

Among them was a Mexican child. Four others were born in the United States but left with their parents to avoid family separation, according to Wilson Paz Reyes, Executive Director of the National Migration Institute of Honduras.

So far, neither Honduras nor the United States has reported whether the minor traveled alone or with adults.

In total, there are at least 18 children and adolescents, he added.

These self-deportation flights are part of a proposal by President Donald Trump, which includes the incentive of receiving one thousand dollars (19,300 Mexican pesos, at yesterday’s exchange rate) as well as the possibility of attempting to enter the United States again. It’s a voluntary flight, not part of a raid or an immigration enforcement operation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), he clarified.

All were offered the same benefits as any undocumented foreigner who self-deports using the CBP Home app.
