The Mexico City Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC-CdMx) reported this Monday that it has arrested five individuals suspected of kidnapping, torturing, and assaulting a mariachi band in the Iztapalapa borough.

The head of the agency, Pablo Vázquez, explained that the detainees are allegedly members of a gang dedicated to drug dealing, extortion, and homicide, which operates in the western and southern areas of the capital.

According to the official report, SSC-CdMx police responded to a report of a group of injured people on the corner of Silos Street and Andador Caporal 2, in the Narciso Mendoza neighborhood, in the Tlalpan borough.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers confirmed the presence of six injured individuals and requested assistance from medical services. Paramedics confirmed that two of the individuals had severe burns: a 35-year-old man with burns over 80 percent of his body and a 31-year-old man with burns over 25 percent of his body. They were immediately transported to a hospital.

The remaining injured individuals, ages 31, 27, and 22, along with one who did not provide their details, were diagnosed with bruises to different parts of their bodies and did not require hospitalization.

The injured individuals told officers that they were members of a mariachi group and had been hired to play Saturday afternoon at a family party in the Iztapalapa Municipality. After their performance, they were held at home, physically assaulted, and burned by those present.

The following day, on Sunday night, the victims were loaded into a black van and later abandoned on the streets of the Tlalpan borough, where they called 911 for help.
