US Secretary of State Marco Rubio toughened his stance against Nicolás Maduro by calling him a “drug trafficker” and a “terrorist,” asserting that this is not an opinion but facts supported by a grand jury in the State of New York. In statements released Thursday, the US Secretary of State emphasized that there are indictments in courts that, in his opinion, invalidate any claim of legitimacy by the Venezuelan leader.

“Nicolás Maduro is a drug trafficker and a terrorist, and I’m not saying that, a grand jury in the State of New York is saying that,” Rubio stated.

According to the Foreign Secretary, “in the State of New York, the Prosecutor’s Office presented evidence, and they indicted him—a grand jury of individuals in the State of New York.” He added that “two years later, a new indictment was issued detailing the role played by Nicolás Maduro, especially in the years beginning with the Chávez drug years.”
