Two teenagers, ages 15 and 16, were killed and five others were injured after a pickup truck struck a group of minors riding three motorcycles along State Highway 8 near the town of Los Algodones, in the Mexicali Valley.

The crash occurred Sunday night, October 4, near the Ladrillera neighborhood and Los Algodones. The youths were traveling on motorcycles when they were struck by a white Toyota Tacoma with Arizona plates.

The two victims who died were identified as Abraham, 16, and Omar, 15. The five other youths, also teenagers, suffered injuries of varying severity.

Municipal police officers, Red Cross personnel, and firefighters responded to the scene. Initial reports indicated that several of the youths were in critical condition and that one person had no vital signs, prompting authorities to request the intervention of the State Attorney General’s Office.

A second teenager was later confirmed dead after dying while receiving medical treatment at the General Hospital in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora.

According to police information, the driver of the Tacoma left the scene after the crash and fled toward the United States. The vehicle was reportedly heavily damaged by the impact.

Photographs of the alleged suspect and the pickup truck subsequently began circulating on social media, while members of the public called for help locating him. Some posts alleged that the man was assisted by a young woman in escaping into U.S. territory; however, this version has not been officially confirmed.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash and determine responsibility.
