Although the deployment of dozens of Border Patrol agents on the streets of Chicago has generated tension among the city’s large Latino community, this afternoon a snapshot quickly went viral.
According to local media, a man, possibly of Latino descent, approached a dozen officers stationed on a downtown street in the Windy City.
After shouting various insults, the man provoked immigration agents into chasing him near the entrance to the downtown Chicago Riverwalk, to the astonished gaze of some pedestrians.
But what they didn’t count on was that the man had his bicycle at his fingertips, allowing him to quickly hop onto his vehicle and outrun his pursuers, in images that were celebrated by thousands of people.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump stated on his Truth Social account that Border Patrol agents deployed in the northern city will not tolerate insults or nonsense from protesters.
The president accompanied his statement with a video, just over two minutes long, showing a confrontation between agents and a group of Mexican protesters.
