The criminal group allegedly behind the murder of Bernardo Bravo Manríquez, president of the Apatzingán Valley Citrus Growers Association, is believed to be the organization known as Los Viagras, which has also been implicated in other crimes in Michoacán.
The death of the lemon grower leader was reported by state authorities on October 20. Because of these events, critical producers in the area point to the aforementioned criminal group and argue that Los Viagras had already threatened the group.
Bravo’s murder is believed to be a message to lemon growers, according to statements published by the media outlet El Universal, which has recorded testimonies.
“We already know that it was Los Viagras who screwed Bernardo to send us all a message,” is part of what was said by one of the producers, who kept his identity confidential for security reasons.
