Lice Outbreak at Disney? This Is How They Detect Children with Lice at Disney World

What appears to be a tender and playful gesture by the employees at Disney World’s Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is actually a discreet strategy to detect head lice or other scalp conditions in young customers before they receive their magical transformation.

A mother discovered this by reviewing a TikTok video of her daughter, where one of the “Fairy Godmothers”—the attraction employee—plays with the girl’s hair while suggesting hairstyles.

What seemed like a show of affection turned out to be a careful and covert check for lice, without causing discomfort to the children or immediate concern to the parents.

The video, which went viral, sparked positive comments on social media for the subtlety and care with which Disney handles the process. “They literally make every moment magical, even while checking for lice,” wrote the surprised mother.

The video shows how, through a Rapunzel-like game, employees check the children’s hair and scalp. In addition to lice, staff also check the children for rashes, wounds, or any skin conditions that could cause an adverse reaction to the products applied during the experience.

On its official website, Disney clarifies that children must be free of any scalp or skin conditions that would interfere with the experience, as Florida law prohibited continuing the service if there was a risk of contagion, although the corresponding legislation was not shown.
