Irving Barrios Mojica, head of the Tamaulipas State Attorney General’s Office (FGJE), confirmed on May 29, 2025, the murder of the five missing members of the Fugitivo musical group, allegedly perpetrated by members of “Los Metros,” a faction of the Gulf Cartel (CDG).
During a press conference, Barrios Mojica also reported the arrest of nine alleged perpetrators of the multiple homicides. He also detailed that initial investigations indicated that the musicians were kidnapped on the night of Sunday, May 25, 2025, in the Riveras del RÃo neighborhood of Reynosa.
“They are believed to be members of a criminal cell of the Gulf Cartel, Reacción Los Metros, which operates in the city of Reynosa,” the head of the Tamaulipas State Attorney General’s Office added.
Local media reported the arrest of Ulises Raga, alias “El Fayuca,” “Metro-40,” and/or “M-40,” who is alleged to be responsible for the multiple homicides. The victims were allegedly hired to entertain at a party organized by a faction of the Gulf Cartel, known as “Los Metros,” led by a criminal leader identified as R-8.
According to the same unofficial reports, cited by local media, the Gulf Cartel has agreed to hand over “El Fayuca” as the perpetrator of the crime, considering him guilty of an altercation with one of the musicians, allegedly motivated by jealousy toward his partner.
On the morning of May 29, a joint operation involving the State Guard, the National Guard (GN), the Ministry of National Defense (DEFENSA), and the FGJE (Argentine Army of the Army of the Judiciary) moved to the brickyard in the Los Longoria community, on the banks of the Rio Grande, where the bodies of the musicians were confirmed to have been found, all charred.
The five members of the musical group Fugitivo disappeared on Sunday, May 25, 2025, after fulfilling a work commitment at a venue located in the Riberas neighborhood of Rancho Grande, on the border between Mexico and the United States.
The Tamaulipas State Attorney General’s Office received the formal complaint on the evening of Monday, May 26, 2025, but since early that same day, through various social media and WhatsApp search groups, the musicians’ families were asking for the public’s help in locating their whereabouts.
The wanted list for the five members of the corrido tumbados (narco-corrido) band was published on May 27, 2025. Meanwhile, friends, fellow musicians, and family members held several protests at iconic locations in the border city, demanding that the investigations into the disappearance be carried out expeditiously.
As revealed by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in its 2025 National Drug Threat Assessment report, the Gulf Cartel had divided into several factions, including Los Metros, Los Ciclones, Los Escorpiones, and Los Rojos.
