The defense lawyer of Víctor Rodríguez Padilla, former general director of Pemex, spoke before the media prior to the initial hearing scheduled for the case of alleged family and vicarious violence that his client faces. The litigant, whose name was not revealed during the meeting with the press, described the media coverage of the case as a “media lynching” and asked that the judicial decisions be respected.
Asked about the emotional state of his client, the lawyer responded that he is “well, very well.” He added that they hope that Rodríguez Padilla’s private life will be respected and that the judicial decisions will be followed by public opinion, considering that there is overexposure of the case in electronic and digital media.
Faced with the accusation that it was his client’s own wife, María Felicia Jiménez Lavié, who disseminated the videos that gave rise to the case, the lawyer responded evasively and requested that “the context” of the matter be understood, without elaborating on details.
The litigant stated that until now they have not had access to the investigation file, so they do not know if the Morelos Prosecutor’s Office – which according to previous reports would seek to charge Rodríguez Padilla with family and vicarious violence – will formally request preventive detention during the hearing.
Asked why, in his opinion, the crime would not merit such a precautionary measure, the lawyer pointed out that it is not a crime of informal preventive detention. He also assured that his client is willing to face the judicial process and that there is no reason to think that he could evade justice, in contrast to previous statements by the Morelos prosecutor, who had indicated that risk as an argument for requesting the measure.
