Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda is reportedly under investigation by U.S. authorities for alleged ties to organized crime; leaked audio recordings reveal that signing a “proffer letter” has been proposed as a means of cooperation to potentially avert charges or sanctions.
According to *ZETA*, the investigation extends beyond the governor herself, also implicating her ex-husband, Carlos Torres Torres, and other individuals, while U.S. authorities determine the specific charges to be brought against them.
The publication reported that this confirmation followed the release of four audio recordings to the press—three provided to journalist Héctor de Mauleón and one to broadcaster Gildo Garza. In these recordings, the governor herself discusses meetings with U.S. agencies and legal efforts to address her case.
