Julio César Arredondo Bojórquez, a 21-year-old architecture student, left his job at a café in the Chapultepec neighborhood of Culiacán, Sinaloa, around 9:10 p.m. on July 20. Twelve days later, his family received his remains.
The young man was brutally murdered, and his remains were left in plastic bags beside the Benito Juárez Bridge on Paseo Niños Héroes.
The Sinaloa State Attorney General’s Office confirmed his identity via DNA testing on July 31; so far, no arrests have been made.
Unofficial reports from local media indicate that the young man was intercepted while waiting for a ride-hailing vehicle to take him home. The Attorney General’s Office has neither confirmed this account nor released details regarding a line of investigation into the motive for the crime.
