Julio César Chávez has openly discussed the problems his sons face. The great Mexican champion has had to deal with the constant relapses of his sons, Julio César Jr. and Omar, due to their addiction issues. Recently, the retired boxer confirmed that one of his sons had to be hospitalized to improve his health, due to a relapse into substance abuse.

According to Chávez González’s explanation in a conversation with Adela Micha on her program “La Saga,” he had to admit one of his sons to a rehabilitation clinic, so the family is going through this process again.

It’s worth noting that “Mr. Knockout” was organizing an exhibition fight with Julio César Chávez Jr. and Omar in December, intending for this event to mark his sons’ return to the ring. But due to current circumstances, the event had to be rescheduled for 2026, as Omar Chávez entered a rehabilitation clinic.

According to the Mexican champion, his second son was in good shape and preparing for the fight in San Luis Potosí. However, he noticed that Omar was exhibiting behaviors that alerted him to a possible relapse.

“Omar had been training very well in Culiacán for a month. But he’s obsessive and compulsive about gambling; he has that problem, and on top of that, he was taking the same pills that Julio was taking,” he explained.
