This Thursday, July 17, marks two weeks since the arrest of Julio César Chávez Jr. in the United States was announced. However, his legal status continues to cause confusion among the boxer’s fans. Therefore, in this article, we will tell you everything you need to know about this high-profile case.
According to information released by the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Julio César Chávez Jr. was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) because he was illegally in the United States after his tourist visa expired in February 2024. Therefore, it was reported that he would be subjected to a process called expedited deportation.
It is worth mentioning that, in addition to Julio César Chávez Jr.’s immigration status, US authorities have classified the boxer as a threat to public safety for being an active member of the Sinaloa Cartel. It was also reported that he would be handed over to Mexican authorities after his deportation due to the existence of an outstanding arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in organized crime and trafficking in firearms, ammunition, and explosives, a fact that has already been confirmed by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
According to information released by US authorities, Julio César Chávez Jr is under the protection of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in a detention center located in Texas, however, because he is facing an expedited deportation process he cannot have contact with his legal team or his family, which has been extremely controversial in said process implemented by the government of Donald Trump, so it is unknown exactly when the Mexican boxer will be repatriated, however, what is certain is that there is already coordination between both governments for his extradition.
