Julio César Chávez Carrasco, 39, son of former boxing champion Julio César Chávez, was arrested by U.S. Marshals Service officers in Los Angeles, California, and will be deported to Mexico in the coming hours.

The Mexican boxer, originally from Culiacán, Sinaloa, was in the neighboring country after facing Jake Paul in a 10-round cruiserweight bout on June 28, losing by unanimous decision at an event held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

The possibility of deportation could be that the boxer’s visa has been revoked, although this has not been confirmed.

In June 2024, the former champion’s son faced charges of illegal weapons possession in a California court, United States, after being arrested in January of that year and serving time in prison for the crime.

The boxer—who was the World Boxing Council middleweight champion in June 2011—is married to Frida Muñoz Román, the wife of Edgar Guzmán López, son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, who was murdered in Culiacán. The couple has filed for divorce on several occasions, allegedly due to accusations of abuse and drug abuse by Chávez Jr. His stepdaughter, Frida Sofía Guzmán Muñoz, frequently appears on Los Angeles television programs promoting herself as a singer.
