The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) confirmed the death of physicist and astronomer Julieta Fierro Gossman at the age of 77. Described as a “rock star of scientific outreach” by the university itself, she made her final appearance during the observation session for the 2024 total solar eclipse, which could be seen in Sinaloa.
Julieta Fierro Gossman was the director and founder of the Universum museum, a cultural center with a unique focus on introducing children and young people to science. She was also the general director of the Department of Scientific Outreach and organizer of the UNAM Children’s and Young Adult Book Fair.
The scientist, also known as “The Science Fairy,” died this Friday, September 19, of causes that have not yet been revealed. However, her legacy includes 40 books, including:
