A Milwaukee Brewers fan has been fired after a now-viral video showed her telling a Latino Dodgers fan that she was going to “call ICE.”
The video was recorded by Dodgers fan Ricardo Fosado during the seventh inning of Tuesday’s Game 2 of the National League Championship Series in Milwaukee, after the defending World Series champions took a 4-1 lead. They went on to win the game 5-1.
Fosado panned his cell phone camera across the somber hometown crowd asking, “Why is everybody quiet?”
The Brewers fan, identified by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as Shannon Kobylarczyk, first responds, shouting, “Real men drink beer, (expletive)!” Moments later, she nudges the man in front of her and says, “Ya know what, let’s call ICE” – or Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Fosado then explains that he’s a United States citizen and veteran of two wars.
“ICE is not going to do anything to me,” Fosado says. “Good luck… call ICE. Call them, (expletive) idiot,” Fosado responds. Kobylarczyk then swipes at the camera.
Fosado challenges Kobylarczyk, saying, “Call ICE. Call ICE. I’m an American citizen. War veteran, baby. Veteran of two wars. ICE ain’t going to do nothing to me. Good luck.”
Kobylarczyk has since been fired from his job with the Milwaukee-based staffing company Manpower Group, the Journal Sentinel reports. She also resigned her role on the board of directors with Make-A-Wish Wisconsin.
In an interview with the newspaper, Fosado said that after the incident, Kobylarczyk reported him to ballpark security, and he was ejected from the game.
He said Kobylarczyk made a mistake but believes she shouldn’t have lost her job. “I don’t think it was horrible or something that should get her fired. I feel bad for her,” Fosado said.
