Jessica Luna Aguilar, former Labor Party (PT) mayoral candidate for Yanga, was shot and killed this Monday afternoon while driving a vehicle through the streets of the municipality of Atoyac, Veracruz.
According to initial reports, a group of armed individuals intercepted the van in which the victim was traveling and fired several shots. After the attack, the vehicle lost control and crashed into the wall of Benito Juárez Elementary School, located in the community of Potrero Nuevo.
The incident occurred when Luna Aguilar was picking up her daughter from school. Witnesses indicated that the attack caused panic among parents, students, and teachers who were in the area during school dismissal.
The assailants fled the scene without a trace, and so far, no arrests related to the murder have been reported. As a result, State Police officers cordoned off the area while personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) removed the body and opened an investigation.
Vicente Aguilar, state coordinator of the Labor Party, confirmed the murder and reported that they will request a meeting with the Veracruz Secretary of Public Security, Alfonso Reyes Garcés, to demand action against the violence against representatives of the Workers’ Party (PT).
