The Yucatecan influencer known as Elisa La Yuca has faced strong criticism on social media after a video of her went viral, showing her disturbing a flock of flamingos in Sisal, Yucatán. In the video, Elisa and her companions were in a wetland area, where they decided to play loud music, causing the birds to fly away from their natural habitat.

In the video, Elisa shares that she didn’t know it was prohibited to listen to music in that area, jokingly commenting, “They woke up, they heard Yeri Mua, they woke up,” referring to the flamingos fleeing the area. Her comment about the birds “leaving like a plague” also sparked outrage among social media users.

Many felt the influencer’s attitude reflected a lack of awareness about the importance of protecting local wildlife and the ecosystem, especially during peak flamingo nesting season.

Elisa La Yuca, whose real name is Elisa Espinosa, is a young content creator from Mérida, Yucatán, known for her regional humor videos and her comedic, “no-filter” style. With over 275,000 followers on TikTok and a strong presence on Instagram and Facebook, she has amassed a supportive fanbase, but has also been at the center of several controversies.
