Iguala, Guerrero, Traffic Secretary Arrested; Linked to Ayotzinapa Case

Agents of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) arrested Mauro Antonio ‘N’, the Iguala Municipal Traffic Director, for organized crime and in connection with the disappearance of the 43 students from the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers’ College.

Specifically, he is accused of using a cell phone belonging to one of the students from the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Teachers’ College of Ayotzinapa on September 27, 2014.

Following up on investigative work, members of the Mexican Army (@Defensamx1), Mexican Navy (@SEMAR_mx), Mexican Attorney General’s Office (@GN_MEXICO_), and Mexican Security and Citizen Protection (@SSPCMexico) arrested Mauro Antonio “N” in Guerrero. He served as Iguala’s Traffic Secretary and is linked to the Ayotzinapa case.

The operation took place around 4:00 a.m. this Tuesday in the Villas del Rey 2 subdivision in the municipal seat of Iguala, when federal forces secured the home of the traffic director, who, it is known, was still on duty at the time of his arrest.

During the security operation, authorities seized a handgun, a rifle, ammunition, a magazine, narcotics, and cell phones.

By Tuesday morning, the personnel in charge of the operation had placed seals on the official’s house indicating that the property was secured.

Until the evening of Monday, March 2, the detainee was carrying out duties related to the position he held, a position granted to him by Mayor Erick Catalán Rendón, an active member of the Green Party (PVEM).

The vehicle that the traffic director uses for his daily transportation remains parked in front of the residence located at number 35 Victoria Street.

The Iguala City Council has not yet issued a statement on the matter, nor has it announced any new appointments.
