ICE Pushes $10 Million Payment for Chapito

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the agency that searches for foreigners within the United States, promoted a $10 million reward on social media yesterday for information leading to the capture of Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar.

This is the same offer that was made on June 10, when the Treasury Department announced $10 million rewards for each of El Chapo Guzmán’s sons, brothers Iván Archivaldo and José Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, who are still at large.

What’s new about the reward offer shared by ICE is that, since the agency isn’t named, it’s understood that they are looking for him within the United States, which is ICE’s jurisdiction. The reward offer was initially made by the Department of Justice (DEA), and last June, the Treasury Department reiterated it.

Regardless of whether the money is offered by those two departments with links abroad, the payment outside the United States would be made by the State Department. ICE’s reiteration refers to the same reward amount, but there are three differences: ICE is offering a reward for only one of the two Guzmán Salazar brothers.

This differs from previous offers, which require that information from abroad be contacted at the embassy or consulate in Mexico. Due to its jurisdiction, the reward is for information leading to the capture of Iván Archivaldo in the United States. Additionally, ICE reports for some reason that Iván Archivaldo has a “fiery gaze.” ICE did not immediately respond to requests for information. In its social media post, ICE stated: “$10 million reward for information leading to the arrest/conviction of Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, son of the notorious Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera.”
